To my new followers, friends, and new members of the CitySweat fam, hello and welcome! My name is Meghan, and this is my story!
I grew up in Albany, NY as the oldest of five children. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved dancing and writing. I spent my childhood days blasting music from my pink boombox and dancing around my living room. I also loved writing my own chapter books and journaling in a different diary, with a different colored gel pen, for every subject of life! My dream was to be a professional dancer and a writer.
I studied at Temple University in Philadelphia, double majoring in dance and journalism. While at Temple, I danced professionally with Eleone Dance Theatre and fell in love with Horton, modern and African dance. I also worked as the social media coordinator, marketing assistant and blogger for Temple’s Dance Program. I fell in love with Philly and the artistic scene there. After four years of dancing and writing, I got my dream internship working at Dance Magazine in midtown right after graduation. I spent my first summer in NYC doing what I love, while also side hustling 6 jobs and moving 6 times (that’s a story for another day!). I adjusted to the buzz of the city and met some wonderful mentors, Nijawwon Matthews and Ebony Williams who helped me pave my way in the dance industry.
Last year, I spent my spring and summer working as part of the choreography team on set of In the Heights (coming to theaters Summer 2021!) I learned and grew more in every aspect of my life than I knew possible. I met lifelong mentors and family (again- another story for another day!)
Through all of these incredible experiences, I was taking mental notes, gathering inspiration and information about each part of my life. I knew I wanted to start my own business. A brand that would fuse my passion for dance, writing and health and wellness. In November 2020, I launched CitySweat. I began hosting pop-up classes around NYC, collaborating with wellness brands like Lululemon and Naked Retail and the Wellth Collective. I traveled to Mexico to teach CitySweat for a week through an amazing program called Fitness Vacation Exchange. CitySweat was gaining momentum and was still very new when this pandemic hit and changed the course of everyone’s lives. I returned back to Albany and immediately transformed CitySweat into a virtual platform.
Four months later, at this very moment, I am putting the finishing touches on my brand new CitySweat at-home studio. I manifested this moment, and I want this to bring people inspiration and hope that they can create their dream lives no matter what the circumstance! It starts with a positive and fearless mindset, good health, and fun (aka CitySweat!)
